A Lean manufacturing line is designed with the capacity to meet a projected future demand. Until sales volume equals the projected future demand, your Lean line has excess capacity. To avoid producing unsold finished goods inventory by operating your lean line at its full operational capacity, the Lean line is flexible enough to allow labor resources to be adjusted up or down to match the actual customer demand each day.

The daily staffing planner calculates the amount of labor resources necessary to staff the Lean line to meet that day’s customer demand.
