The Debate is Over!
The Benefits of Lean Manufacturing are Indisputable!
By now, most manufacturers have made the decision about their company’s commitment whether to move forward with a business transformation to a Lean operating system or not. In fact, a recent survey of North American manufacturers has revealed that while 40% of manufacturers have chosen not to pursue a Lean operating system, the remaining 60% have either begun their transformation project or are planning to do so in the near future.
This survey suggests the majority of manufacturers have decided the benefits of a Lean operating system are worth the time and effort necessary to complete a transformation project for their company. Some manufacturers report they have yet to realize the results expected from their transformation project, while others, familiar with the Lean technology, are just not sure how to get their transformation project started.
Manufacturers understand Lean! The biggest problem most manufacturers struggle with is “HOW TO” complete their transformation to a Lean operating system. “Where do I start or what do I do first?” are often the first decisions many companies confront as they begin their transformation projects. Some companies may lack the project management skills, available personnel, or time required to lead a significant business transformation project such as Lean, but understanding the concepts of Lean is not their problem!
The majority of manufacturers who choose to transform their factories to a Lean operating system use computerized planning systems such as MRP and /or ERP and traditional performance measurements such as utilization. These systems often conflict with Lean performance measurements which emphasize lead time reduction, inventory reduction and improved quality. Ultimately, for any Lean manufacturing transformation to be successful, all operating systems must run in concert with one another.
So, if you are one of those 60% of manufacturers who have made the commitment to implement Lean, and are looking for better results from your implementation efforts or your company is just not sure how to begin it’s project, the Mfg Matters business transformation technology may be the solution for you!
